Eastern Equatoria state has been blessed with a multi-million rural electrification project inaugurated today in Kapoeta that is expected to accelerate development in the region.
State minister for Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries, Jerome Surur Gama, told Emmanuel Radio that rural electrification was a valuable means to support local produce and small scale industries.State minister for Education, Michael Lopuke Lotyam, said with the electricity in Kapoeta will allow teachers to use computers and write better reports.
The minister of education added that the electricity will also help students to revise their lessons at night before retiring to sleep, getting some extra study hours.
According to the USAID, that funded the electrification of Kapoeta County, the facility will generate 894 kilowatts of energy enough to serve about 900 customers.
The Kapoeta project, including training, will cost some four million US Dollars when it is completed by September 2011.
