An eastern Equatoria MP from the NCP campaigned for separation against his party’s position to respect the voters who elected him.
Hassan Urubano Alex, representing Lopit South-Western zone, told Emmanuel Radio that the interests of South Sudan came first during the referendum and he mobilized the people to vote for separation.He added that the freedom of Southern Sudan was more important than the NCP’s agenda.
Mr. Urubano said he had to respect the will of the people who voted him into the Eastern Equatoria Assembly.
Lopit South-Western zone constituency is one of the areas in Eastern Equatoria state that voted overwhelmingly for secession of Southern Sudan.
Lafon/Lopa County offered hundred per cent votes for separation in the recent referendum.
Its voters support massively the NCP in the April 2010 elections.
