A civil society member says he is saddened by the committee appointed by GoSS president to review the Interim Constitution of South Sudan.
Isaac Kenyi is the Executive Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Justice and Peace Commission. He told SCR News that the constitution is not a matter for ministers and lawyers alone but a responsibility of all south Sudanese.He added that excluding the civil society from drafting the constitution was wrong.
Mr. Kenyi said the drafting committy should include all parties, civil society, Churches and people from all walks of life so that the Constitution is inclusive.
He added that the ministers and lawyers would be more useful in purifying and re-drafting the constitution planned by parties and civil society representatives.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit last week issued a presidential decree appointing the GoSS minister for Legal Affairs and Constitutional Development, John Luk Jok, to lead a 24-member Constitutional Review Committee that includes GoSS ministers, presidential advisors, judges, MPs and lawyers.
