GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL SAYS RETURNEES PREFER URBAN SETTLEMENT

Lakes State Minister of Physical Infrastructure said that returnees prefer to settle in urban settings rather than rural areas.

Speaking to Good News Radio, Joseph Maker Madit confessed that the urban centres within Lakes State are not well planned.

He poinetd out the need of experts to help plan better the urban centres in view of the influx of returnees and other rural dwellers into the towns.

Mr. Maker also said that his ministry is working on the road linking the main towns of the State.

The Minister acknowledged the urgency of constructing a road leading to Mapuordit Rural Hospital, explaining that Mary Immaculate Mission Hospital is a referral hospital that needs easy accessibility all year long.

He confirmed that the road works are to start “immediately”.

Infrastructural development will have to be one of the main priorities in South Sudan to ensure smooth resettlement and sustainability of the returnees mostly who have been living in developed Khartoum.
