The Commissioner of Juba County this afternoon intervened to stop a serious land grabbing incident involving military that could escalate into the killing of innocent civilians.
This afternoon a group of Joint Integrated Unit officers known as JIU opened fire on civilians who were asking the army to move away from their land in Kor Romla, in Juba.
Joice Dudu Martin, a local resident, told Bakhita Radio that a group of JIU officers turned their guns against civilians who were asking the military to stop constructing their tukulls in places belonging to local residents.
Ms. Dudu wondered what a better future southern Sudan would have when it imposes dishonesty against its citizens.
She said the JIU action would jeopardized the unity among the people of southern Sudan.
Juba County Commissioner Thomas Gore Simon went to Kor Romla to cool down the situation and advised the citizens to remain calm and let the issue run its legal course.
Mr. Gore added that the conflict would only affect innocent children and women.
He said guns are given to the security forces to protect civilians and their property and not to intimidate them.
Mr. Gore affirmed that he would contact the commanding leader of the JIU to look in to the case.
The incident happened in Kor Romla in southern part of Juba Town. No casualty was reported.
