Gangsters from Lakes state failed an attempted cattle raid in Tonj South County, Warrap state, three days back.

Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Mayei told Don Bosco FM that the gangsters failed the raid because cattle keepers were asked to bring their herds nearer to the town and the SPLA took defensive positions.

He added that the raiders exchanged fire with some military coming to Tonj from Juba but nobody got hurt, only one soldier who fell from a vehicle lost his gun.

Mr. Mayei said chiefs from Tonj South County are in Cueibet County, Lakes State, in a meeting to solve cattle rustling issues between the two communities.

He added that 30 policemen were deployed on the road to Aguka, on the Tonj-Rumbek road and another 15 at Akuceng to defend the civilians.

Mr. Mayei noted that there are rumours that the gangsters are hidden in the bush ready for another attack but the security forces are on the alert.
