A civil society umbrella group concluded yesterday a two-day workshop in Rumbek to train local referendum observers on their role in the process.
Reuben Marial Marol, a Sudanese Network for Democratic Elections (SuNDE) coordinators told Good News Radio that the training focused on the “Dos” and “Don’ts” for local observers during the referendum vote.Mr. Marial said the workshop was a “master training” that targeted members of the steering committees in Lakes and Unity states in collaboration with the National Democratic Institute.
Lakes State Deputy Steering Committee Coordinator, Rebecca Yar, said the workshop equipped the participants with information that they are to pass on to other observers in the various counties in order to play their role to monitor the referendum vote.
Ms. Yar added that the training included information about the referendum process to help community members know what to do on the actual day of voting.
SuNDE is a non-partisan coalition of more than 75 Sudanese civil society organizations and faith-based groups working together for free, fair, and peaceful, democratic processes.
