Mapuordit Hospital HIV Aids awareness team survived an attack while travelling on Wednesday between Aluakluak and Adou, some sixty kilometres East of Rumbek, Lakes State.
James Lat, a team member, sent an e-mail to Good News Radio, saying they were attacked at five PM on their way from Yirol West County to Mapuordit when they found a barrier of poles erected across the road.
Mr Lat wrote that as they approached the makeshift checkpoint two men armed with machetes emerged from the thicket to attack them.
The driver decided to drive on, managing to jump over the pieces of wood.
The robbers threw their machete at the vehicle in desperation.
Mr Lat called upon the government of Lakes State to investigate the incident, adding that if the attackers had guns, the robbery attempt could have been fatal.
He also said that his team was afraid to continue with its HIV Aids awareness mission until security was assured.
Mary Immaculate Mapuordit Hospital is a rural health facility in Yirol East County belonging to the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.
The hospital has a Voluntary Counselling and Testing Centre and an Anti-Retroviral Therapy Centre among other services.
