Eastern Equatoria speaker blamed the delay of referendum campaign in the state on lack of funds.

Eastern Equatoria state parliament went on recess over one week ago to allow MPs to pass the referendum message to the people at their constituencies, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi said MPs started the campaigns in their constituencies but some committees have delayed because funds did not arrive from Juba.

Mr. Ocholimoi said ten barrels of fuel were distributed to each county.

He added that the minister for Roads was buying some tipper lorries to transport voters from remote areas to referendum centres.

The speaker added that campaigners had to teach voters the meaning of the referendum symbols and how to mark the ballot paper.

In a related development, State Referendum outreach officer Mary Juwa revealed that the civic awareness campaign was progressing.

Madam Juwa said the subcommittee trained the local chiefs, youths, and women on how to go about the referendum process.

She added that the each referendum centre will have only one ballot box.

Madam Juwa explained that if the box gets full will be replaced by another but votes for unity and for separation are put in the same place.

Madam Juwa urged citizens to be peaceful during the referendum process and vote wisely.

She made these statements after visiting several counties in Eastern Equtoria.
