Lakes State Public Health Director addressed the complaints made by beauty salon operators in Rumbek, saying the matter was resolved in a meeting held yesterday.

Foreign salon operators in Rumbek lamented mistreatment by Public Health officials, citing unwarranted arrest and extortion charges.

Makur Ater Akony told Good News Radio that he summoned all salon owners in Rumbek and opened a case against them after public health officers found the streets of Rumbek littered with hair.

Mr Ater said that the problem was resolved through a meeting with the salon owners, explaining that he called the meeting because the court judges have not reported to work yesterday.

Rumbek Town Clerk and the chairman of the Association of Kenyans in Lakes State were also present at the meeting.

Mr. Ater said the participants agreed to keep the hair in bags and not to through the water from hair washing into the streets because they have chemicals and can cause cholera.

Mr. Ater denied claims by some salon operators that his officers targeted only foreign owners, describing them as “lies”.

He insisted that some of the operators arrested were natives of Rumbek.

Mr. Ater urged the salon owners and other business operators to keep their premises clean.

On Monday, 17 salon owners were fined 250 Sudanese pounds by the court for disposing of hair waste improperly.
