NEW COMBONI MISSIONARIES PROVINCIAL ENCOURAGES ETHNIC INTEGRATION

The newly elected Provincial Superior of the Comboni Missionaries in Southern Sudan is encouraging ethnic integration in order to build the new country that is likely to be born after the January referendum.

Fr. Danielle Moschetti, who starts his term of office on January 1, told Good News Radio on his way to Juba that Southern Sudanese that he admired the patience of the people throughout the difficult moments of civil war.

Fr. Moschetti urged Southerners to continue the struggle by cultivating good attitudes towards life that can bring about development of their new nation.

He encouraged the youth to work hard to achieve what he described as the common goal of peace, justice, reconciliation, and unity.

Fr. Moschetti said that he will lead his Comboni colleagues in Southern Sudan to make their presence more “consistent and relevant” in the post referendum context.

He observed that the Church will have a bigger task after the referendum including the integration of the different ethnic groups of Southern Sudan and challenging the new establishment.

Fr. Moschetti expressed appreciation for the time he spent in the Mapuordit Mission, thanking all his collaborators for their support, including fellow missionaries, priests, catechists, government officials, community leaders and especially the youth with whom he initiated many programmes.

He said he was sad to leave a just started great work for peace and reconciliation with the youth of Mapuordit.

Fr. Moschetti, 50, is an Italian national. He worked at Mapuordit Mission for 15 months, with a focus on Youth Ministry.

He served for many years in the Nairobi slums of Korogocho, in Kenya, before his appointment to South Sudan.
