The Toposa community in the three Kapoeta Counties, in Eastern Equatoria, imposed a ban on alcohol trade and consumption in the area.
Eastern Equatoria Parliament deputy speaker, Paul Napwon, told the House that the Toposa have unanimously condemned and rejected the use of Ziko as alcohol is commonly known in the area, Emmanuel Radio reported.Mr. Napwon was presenting the registration mobilization report by MPs representing the Toposa counties.
The Toposa Legislative Assembly Committee compiled a report that outlined a number of issues during the registration including a ban on alcohol in the area.
The report says that the Toposa witnessed that drinking alcohol may lead to a total decline of their traditional culture and loss of lives.
The people had also agreed that nobody is allowed to carry alcohol to any Toposa village and they warned that whoever dares to do so will face mob justice.
The Toposa community warned government authorities against interfering with their execution of justice to alcohol ban offenders.
A similar ban on alcohol was also been imposed in Ikwoto County.
Speaker Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi said the Parliament will have to take up the concern of the people and enact an anti-alcohol law to strengthen the restriction.
