Human rights activists have been urged to stand up and stop discrimination which is rampant in the society.
UNIMS Human Rights Leader Albert Morris Said told Good News Radio that rights violations exist in every community.Mr. Said noted that discrimination was one of the factors that drove Southern Sudanese to the bush to fight for their rights.
He added that street children and women were facing discrimination and the latter saw their rights to inheritance denied.
Mr. Said said UNMIS Human Rights Unit was working hand in hand with the Government of Lakes State to promote human rights in the community.
He added that UNMIS’ mandate was to observe and discuss with relevant authorities violations of human rights in Lakes state and find the remedies to stop them.
Mr. Said said UNMIS trained authorities, journalists, civil society groups and communities to know their rights.
