The government of Italy donated more than one million US Dollars to be spent on child and maternal health care in south Sudan.
Mauro Ghirotti, head of the development cooperation office in the embassy of Italy, told the press this morning in Juba that the donation reflected Italy’s commitment to reaching out to south Sudan.Mr. Ghirotti added that his government wanted to help children because they are the future while mothers are the pillars of the society.
The acting undersecretary in GoSS ministry of Health said the money would be used for the expanded programme on immunization, reproductive health and directorates.
He added that the money would finance the measles vaccination of 113 thousand children and support over 18 thousand women with delivery kits and regular anti-natal care in Lakes, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Western Bahr el Ghazal, Warrap and Western Equatoria.
The Italian government confirmed its readiness to support the region not only in the health sector but also in basic education, urban and rural development and primary health care.
