Eastern Equatoria registered more than 262 thousand voters to take part in the referendum to determine the destiny of Southern Sudan.

A preliminary result released to Emmanuel Radio by the Outreach officer at the Referendum State High Committee, Mary William Juwa, indicate also that 48 centres did not report yet their final tally due to problems of communication.

Mrs. Juwa says that the figure included the people registered in the 310 centres from November 15 up to December 1.

Forty eight centres have still to report their numbers for the last week of registration due to communication challenges.

Ms. Juwa said 48 centres can only be accessed by air and their results would be collected by the UN flights.

Ms. Juwa says the reports from the hard-to-reach areas would be available to the state High Committee office by Sunday.
