Lack of funds forced an indigenous civil society organization to halt activities for voter education towards the referendum process.
Kur Ayen is co-executive director of My Referendum for Freedom. He told SCR News that his organization would have done more voter registration campaigning if there was sufficient funding.Mr. Ayen added that the money the group got from fundraising finished before registration started.
Mr. Ayen said organizations that benefitted from the funds allocated by GoSS for civil society group were too small and many did not understand the referendum process.
Lack of civic education is enlisted among the many reasons for the low turn up at referendum centres for voter registration.
