South SUDAN Network for Democracy and Elections has submitted to the Minister of Interior some citizens’ security concerns, and recommendations after a public survey in Juba and other parts of the country in March this year.

Rajab Mohandis, SSuNDE Executive Director says citizens mentioned armed robbery at home and along the road, rape cases, murder and intimidations as the common crimes carried out by armed men.

He says SSuNDE discussed with the security institutions in August on the citizens concerns, and agreed that a new uniform should be provided to all the security personnel with their names tagged and service number.

Doggi Barjal, a citizen from Juba laments that people are tired and people are being killed by armed men in uniform. She adds that government should do something about this.

Lt General Michael Chianjiek, Interior Minister confirms that his office will provide new uniform soon.

He calls on citizens to collaborate with the security personnel to report necessary information to police concerning any security threat.

Police inspector general, Sayeed Shaul, outlines bad roads and many places are not names to make it easy for police to respond in case of criminal activity.

The officials spoke on Thursday during the presentation of the citizens’ security concerns in Juba organized by SSuNDE.
