The head of the bishops’ commission for seminaries said Khartoum’s major formation institutions for priests are to be relocated to Juba.
Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro told Good News Radio that the Philosophical Institute was already relocated from Khartoum to Juba with the first batch of seminarians expected soon after the renovation of buildings ended.Archbishop Lukudu said plans to relocate the theological institute were underway.
He clarified that the relocation of seminaries was not a sign of separation, but rather recognition that South Sudan provided a more suitable context for the formation of future priests.
Archbishop Lukudu said families and the Christian community did not support their seminarians enough, a matter of concern for the bishops.
Addressing the issue of massive drop out from the major seminaries, Archbishop Lukudu encouraged young Sudanese to respond to God’s call to serve the Church as priests.
He added that Sudan would be a very poor country without priests, sisters and brothers.
Archbishop Lukudu made these statements on Saturday in Rumbek during the bishops’ plenary assembly.
