The Governor of Lakes State called on citizens and political parties to exercise freedom of expression during the referendum campaigns, whether supporting unity or separation at the vote of self-determination for South Sudan.

Chol Tong Mayay asked the members of the public to give equal chance to both camps to express their views during the referendum campaigns.

Governor Tong encouraged political parties that may have been operating under cover to express their views freely.

Governor Tong highlighted the meetings he attended in Juba, including the South to South dialogue that involved all the political parties operating in Southern Sudan, and the Governors’ Forum.

He revealed that the meetings focused on the process of the referendum with emphasis on security. Decentralization, governance and transparency were also discussed.

Governor Tong made these statements yesterday upon his arrival at Rumbek International Airport.
