The participants at the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Assembly are expected in Rumbek until tomorrow on flights from Nairobi, Khartoum and Juba.
Fr. Santino Maurino is the Secretary General for the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SCBC). He told Good News Radio that Cardinal Polycarp Pengo, archbishop of Dar-es-Salam, in Tanzania, and president of SECAM, the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar, would preside the opening mass on Sunday.Fr. Maurino added that the SCBC plenary opens officially on Monday with welcoming speeches from the host bishop Caesar Mazzolari, SCBC President Bishop Rudolph Deng Majok of Wau and Lakes State Governor Chol Tong Mayay.
The participants will then review the agenda of the plenary.
The SCBC Plenary, the second in 2010, will take place in Rumbek from November 8 to 14 to review the implementation of previous resolutions and recommendations and report on the state of the Catholic Church in the Sudan, dioceses and institutions.
Delegations from Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA), the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) and the Association of Catholic Women of East and Central Africa (ACWECA) will be present at the SCBC Plenary.
