Southern Sudan governors appealed to the national government to protect Southerners living in the north while welcoming northerners who remain in the South.

Eastern Equatoria governor Louis Lobong Lojore told Radio Emmanuel yesterday that the Eighth Governors’ Forum appealed to Southerners in the North to come home for the referendum.

He added that the governors also appealed for protection and citizenship for Southerners who wanted to remain in the north after the referendum while promising the same for Northerners in the South.

Mr. Lobong said the forum also resolved to provide a conducive and peaceful atmosphere for the referendum campaigners.

He added that the state would provide security and freedom to all campaigners.

Mr. Lobong made these statements upon his arrival at Torit airstrip.

He was welcomed by the acting governor, Peter Otim Karlo, advisors and some members of Parliament including speaker Ambrose Ocholimoi.
