Yei County AIDS Commission held its first meeting today to prepare for World AIDS Day scheduled for December 1.

County AIDS Commission coordinator Chris Issa said the shortcomings of last year’s celebration needed not to be repeated again this year and hence the early preparatory activities, Easter Radio reported.

Mr. Issa urged community based organizations to take an active role for the success of the day.

He also appealed to NGOs responsible for fighting against the virus to submit their project plans for a smooth running of the day.

Mr. Issa disclosed that the day will be celebrated under the slogan “Get tested and stay alive.”

He encouraged people to take part in the awareness campaign from November 27 to December 6 and do voluntary counselling and testing to know their HIV status.

Joyce Sadia, data collector for Yei County AIDS Commission, said usually NGOs delayed presenting their information.

The preliminary meeting was attended by 17 people, including NGO’s representatives.
