The vice president of the government of south Sudan urged economy planners to refrain from an over-reliance on oil revenue and diversify sources of income.
Addressing participants during the opening of the Eighth Governors’ Forum on Tuesday, Riek Machar Teny said the current over-reliance on the oil revenue could not be justified because it was not sustainable.Dr. Machar called upon stakeholders to develop non- oil revenue alternatives as they were the only way to generate a vibrant economy in south Sudan.
Sudan currently pumps some five hundred thousand barrels of oil per day, and four hundred thousand come from fields in South Sudan.
