Southern Sudan Referendum chief assured that nobody would be able to rig the results from the vote on self-determination.

South Sudan Referendum Bureau Chairperson, Justice Chan Reec Madut, made the assurance while officiating over the swearing in of Eastern Equatoria Referendum Sub-committees in Torit, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Mr. Madut said local and international observers will monitor and control the referendum process and the registration cards have serial numbers to avoid frauds.

He appealed to the public to take an active role in the referendum saying the exercise is a serious matter that needs the participation of every citizen.

Mr. Madut mentioned that the referendum symbols were not yet agreed upon.

He said the symbols would be communicated to the sub-committee members immediately after they were approved.
