The founder of a Christian newspaper urged the Christian inspired media to provide balanced and fair news that promote peace and form public opinion towards the upcoming referendum on South Sudan self-determination.
John Daau is the New Sudan Christian director and editor. He told SCR News that he Christian inspired media should take an active role during preparations for the referendum by providing balanced information and forming public opinion.Rev. Daau said that despite the many difficulties it faces, including lack of prepared journalists and facilities, the Christian media is committed to be part of the referendum journey.
Rev. Daau added that Churches have been in the lead advocating for peace and stability in the Sudan.
He urged church communities to build up peace and unity through prayer in order to overcome tensions that are part of the referendum process.
Rev. Daau made these statements at a workshop on press freedom and religion in the upcoming referendum that concluded today in Juba.
