The food gap in South Sudan needs a collaborative effort to address the question of hunger in the region.

UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Chief advisor Ali Said told SCR News that unexpected low production of cereals last year created a big food gap in the region

Mr. Said urged humanitarian organizations to donate and the private sector to import cereals to cover the extra 225,000 tones of cereal needed to feed the southern population.

Mr. Said said FAO required over 68 million US dollars to provide almost two million people with seeds and tools to promote food security in the region.

He added that FAO planned to establish a communication system in South Sudan to promote marketing information and distribution in the region.

Today the UN celebrated World Food Day under the theme “United against Hunger” calling for a joint effort to address hunger in the world and in special in South Sudan.
