Eastern Equatoria governor called on southerners to maintain peace and not retaliate to incidences of harassment and intimidation.
Governor Louis Lobong Lojore told the congregation at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Torit yesterday that the people of Southern Sudan should allow both separatists and unionists to exercise their democratic rights without intimidation.Mr. Lobong urged southerners to maintain peace in the region, saying referendum campaigns for separation and unity should be conducted openly and without fear.
The governor revealed that the SPLM and the government of Southern Sudan urged the civil society including the Church to conduct civil education on the referendum.
Mr. Lobong explained that the resolution authorizing the civil society and the Church to carry out referendum awareness campaigns was agreed during the recent Kejiko 2 Forum between the Churches and the Government of Southern Sudan in Juba.
