A journalist working with Sudan Catholic Radio News received the UNICEF 2010 Media Award with a report she published in a local newspaper.

Marvis Birungi obtained the print media award with her story “Street kids: Whose responsibility?” published in The Juba Post, UNICEF announced today.

The story focused on the conditions that force children onto the streets and the risks they are exposed to.

Ms Burungi told SCR News that she felt honoured with the award and that it means that people and organizations are paying attention to children and their rights.

Chance Baniko from Miraya FM, won the prize in the radio category with her report on Viola, a child imprisoned in Juba who was released only after Miraya FM broadcasted the story.

Four journalists from north Sudan were also distinguished by the UNICEF Media awards.
