The UN Security Council visited Juba yesterday and today to press for the referenda of the people of south Sudan and Abyei on self-determination to be held on time and in a peaceful environment.
SCR News asked some citizens what the visit of the UN delegation meant to them.Dr. Alex Dimiti said the UN mission had the opportunity to see what south Sudanese have been advocating and yearning for since the independence in 1956.
A woman said through this visit the UNSC should consider the Southerners as people worthy of protection from any sort of injustices.
A gentleman with an NGO in Juba said the UNSC and the entire world were ready to listen to the views of south Sudanese adding that Southerners want a timely referendum.
The UN delegation that remains in the country until the weekend is made up of envoys from Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States, and ten other nations on the Council.
