Representatives from the Government and the Churches of South Sudan discussed today security issues ahead of the referendum scheduled for January 2011.
Sudan Council of Churches Secretary General Ramadan Chan told SCR News that the government and the churhes discussed issues patterning to the security of southern Sudan, particularly the affected areas.Rev. Chan revealed that the Council is pushing the peace partners to initiate the popular consultation in Nuba Mountains and Southern Blue Nile before the end of the interim period.
He said the Church is charged with the responsibility of reconciling the societies and pray for peace among the people of southern Sudan.
Rev. Chan affirmed that GoSS urged the churches to carry out sensitization programs of reconciliation and civic education and help IDPs to return home.
The three-day Government-Church Forum held under the theme Let us Start Rebuilding ended today in Juba.
