A number of Southern Sudanese living in the North feel threatened and intimidated, said the Khartoum-based Secretary General of the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference.

Fr. Santino Maurino Morokomomo told Good News Radio on Saturday that since most Southern Sudanese were keener on separation rather than unity, the Northern government was talking about expulsion of Southerners from the North.

Fr. Santino added that some Southerners wish to return to the South but cannot afford the fare.

Fr. Santino appealed to the Government of Southern Sudan to help Southerners in the North who wish to return to their ancestral land.

Fr. Santino also expressed concern that there may be extreme persecution that may take the form of confiscation of Church property and harassment of Church personnel if south Sudan chooses secession.

The Sudan Information Minister Kamal Mohamed Obeid said last month southerners would not enjoy citizenship rights in the north if the result of the referendum was separation.
