Western Equatoria Commerce and Trade minister says eight companies are qualified to import food commodities to the state amidst the economic crisis that hit the country.

Simon Ngbiidigi disclosed to Anisa Radio that the national government, Central Bank and competent companies completed 98 percent of all necessary arrangements to start importing food commodities before heavy rains.

He urges citizens to be calm, work for peace and focus on agriculture to minimize hunger.

Mr Ngbiidigi attributes the economic crisis of the nation to insecurity, political unrest and poor infrastructure that mostly affect the local population.

Last month, the national government resolved to give letters of credit to qualified companies to import food commodities to all states at affordable prices for citizens.
