The Apostolic Nuncio to South Sudan in his remarks during the opening of South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ meeting on Wednesday in Juba said the Pope prays for peace in the young country.
Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo told Bishops, Apostolic Administrators and lay people attending the meeting that Pope Francis included South Sudan to be one of the most of African countries for which he appeals to God for tranquility.
He said the Pope called on South Sudan politicians and the international community to commit themselves to overcome all conflicts through dialogue.
The President of South Sudan Catholic Bishops Secretariat Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro welcomed all participants and acknowledged their commitment and seriousness.
He described the presence of Bishops, priests and religious as obedience to the call of Jesus Christ.
Earlier, South Sudan Catholic Bishops Secretary Fr Charles Abud welcomed the guests to Juba and appreciated partners for facilitating their annual meetings.
He described the current meeting as an opportunity for all Catholic leaders in South Sudan to reflect on negative and positive challenges facing all dioceses.
South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ meeting is discussing issues affecting the country including lack of development especially in Malakal Diocese due to the ongoing conflict.
