Japanese International Cooperation Agency or JICA agrees to train four teachers from Central Equatoria to become tutors in the state.
Central Equatoria State Education Minister Hastin Yokwe Anisio told the press after meeting education technocrats including Examination Director, Quality Promotion Director, Inspectors, Juba County Director, head teachers and mathematic teachers on poor performance in mathematics.
He added that they are making efforts to establish a training centre in Juba to increase the number of mathematic teachers to boost the subject performance at Primary Leaving Examinations.
Minister Yokwe disclosed 2014 percentage pass in mathematics as 14 percent, saying it is a serious concern to address.
He added that they resolved that teachers should point out areas of weakness to improve in the national curriculum development.
Minister Yokwe said the meeting recommended that examinations’ department to have council to manage examinations for state level.
He exclaimed that failure in mathematics is a horrible signal to the ministry.
The State Minister says there is need to sensitize parents and teachers associations in every school especially in rural areas.
Minister Yokwe expressed commitment to address on education concerns in the state.
