Commodity prices rise in Nuba Mountains

The commodity prices in Nuba Mountains markets are rising due to closure of chain market of Sumbuk and impassable roads from Yida area.

Trade union chairman in Kauda, Abdel-Kharim Mohamed Adam said price rise followed SPLM-North’s closure of chain market and worsening muddy road condition from Yida, bogging big trucks carrying goods, Voice of Peace reported.

He explained that goods like sugar and onions are in small quantities and that available ones got finished earlier on.

Sugar, for example, previously costing eight Sudanese Pounds rose to 15 Pounds and that it is even rare to find in Kauda market.

Mr Mohamed observes that if SPLM-North authority allows traders to re-open Sumbuk market, commodity prices will reduce in the area.
