The African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child Advocacy Mission is expected to assess the situation of children affected by the conflict in South Sudan between August 3 and 9.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Committee in collaboration with the AU Office in Juba, United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS, UNICEF, UNHCR, Save the Children and National Child Rights Coalition was to advocate for improved protection and response to conflict affected kids.
It would assess the impact of the conflict on children in Juba, Bor and Bentiu and determine key capacity and resource gaps for the prevention and response.
It is projected to meet top government officials from relevant ministries, national Human Rights Commission and civil society organizations working on children.
The African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child is expected to present a report on the outcome of the assessment.
It earlier expressed its concerns on the humanitarian challenges hindering the protection and the well-being of children in South Sudan.
The committee commended efforts of the government of South Sudan, AU and UN agencies and International NGOs in seeking peaceful resolutions to the conflict and provision of humanitarian aid to children.
