Sudd Institute said the homecoming of South Sudanese from the Diaspora, influx of foreign investors and aid workers to South Sudan raised concern of an increasing HIV AIDS in the country.

Institute Deputy Administrator Awak Deng Bior said in an analysis paper on Tuesday that the untapped investment opportunities of South Sudan after independence are attracting both foreign investors and Diasporas, becoming a threat to national security of the young nation.

He said South Sudan lacks efficient HIV AIDS testing and monitoring systems that help effectively track the spread of the virus due to decades of war and that cultural practices, beliefs and lack of education, contribute to the insufficient awareness of HIV AIDS.

He warned that if immediate steps are not implemented to reverse the spread of the virus, the impact could result to a threat on the national security of South Sudan which depends on quality of investments, education and good health services.

The Deputy Administrator called on the government to influence health investments as part of its commitment to combat the spread of HIV AIDS in the country.
