The Mother of Mercy Hospital in Heiban County of Nuba Mountains warned against unknown disease infecting children during the rainy season.

A nurse in the hospital Ajiman Nyalo told Voice of Peace Radio that they collected the data from parents of the two children treated of the unusual parasite and both claimed stagnant rain water cause the disease.

He said the parasite which was known by high fever, convulsion, stiff neck, weakness and loss of appetite causes brain damage.

The nurse advised the community to report children with such signs and symptoms to the health facility, calling on them to prevent children from playing in the stagnant water.

On June 28, Mother of Mercy Hospital admitted 12 children infected by unknown diseases before they were referred from the GED Hospital.

He said many affected children were from Kubang and other areas having no access to health facilities.
