US says over 3 million South Sudanese face severe food insecurity

United States or US Special Envoy to South Sudan and Sudan reported that 3.8 million South Sudanese are experiencing severe food insecurity due to the ongoing conflict.
 
Ambassador Donald Booth said donors pledged 600 million dollars for emergency humanitarian assistance to address the situation in the country with US as the largest contributor.
 
Ambassador Booth said the current situation is a man-made catastrophe which could only end through amicable solutions for people return home and resume to their normal economic activities.
 
He pointed out that South Sudan is a rich country where people could utilize their land and support themselves to eradicate food insecurity.
 
Ambassador Booth expressed US continuous commitment to work with the warring parties and IGAD mediators to achieve a permanent ceasefire.
