Twenty two candidates at Torit School of Nursing and Midwifery on Monday started first national exams in Eastern Equatoria Referral Hospital.

The State Health Minister Margret Itto said the exams qualify nurses and midwives for national recognition, Emmanuel Radio reported.

She urged the candidates to observe medical ethics and handle patients with care on their deployment after the course.

The minister laments insufficiency of national institutions for clinical officers and nurses.

She disclosed that the state government with the help of health partners is planning to expand the Torit Nurses Training School to accommodate more students, saying the council of ministers discussed the matter recently.

State Health Ministry Director General Silvestro Omini expects the candidates to raise the name of the state at the national level which he described as historic.
