Uganda confiscates 700 jerrycans of “Guu” enroute to South Sudan

Ugandan authorities on Thursday confiscated over seven hundred jerrycans of local brews known as ‘Guu’ on transit to South Sudan.
 
An equivalence of 14,000 litres of the illicit brew was smuggled by traders through Lotukei border point into Eastern Equatoria State, Emmanuel Radio reported.
 
Kidepo National Game Park Chief Warden Johnson Kaiga vowed to always check trucks to ensure dealers in illicit brews do not enter South Sudan because excessive consumption of Guu cause serious harm to the human health and death.
 
Eastern Equatoria Local Government Minister Charles Lokonoi requested the Ugandan authorities to retain the liquor and release the dealers without any charges.
 
The State outlaws trade in local brews including Guu instructed Ugandan authorities to restrict the illicit liquor from entering South Sudan as its consumption causes death to hundreds of people in Eastern Equatoria.
