A teacher at Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs’ Mahad Children Space Centre in Juba on Thursday said language barrier was their biggest challenge to teach children displaced from Jonglei State because they speak Dinka, Anyuak, Murle, Jie and Kachipo.

Jackline Kapuki told CRN that 600 pupils in the centre do not speak English or Arabic well, making teaching and interaction very difficult without the aid of interpreters.

She added that pronouncing names of children was also very difficult without the help of community animators in roll call and translation of lessons from English to mother tongues and vice-versa.

Ms Kapuki said the centre needs scholastic materials including books for carrying out lessons.

She stressed the need for medical facility to cater for cholera outbreak in Juba where the displaced persons are taking refuge.

Ms Kapuki a social worker, turned a teacher made the statement after USAID’s announcement of 17 million Dollars’ donation to South Sudan for IDPs emergency education.
