United States, US Ambassador to South Sudan on Thursday praised deceased American poet and author Maya Angelou, wishing the poem ‘arise’ makes South Sudan change from pain and shame into strong and developmental.

Susan Page recited Maya Angelou’s poem in tribute of her inspiration of hope and vision for then enslaved black people in America.

The Ambassador hopes Angelou’s poem would bring hope to South Sudan to arise from past pain and shame to go forward like Black American slaves of the past.

The poet died on Wednesday at her home in Winston-Salem in North Carolina at the age of 86 years.

The ambassador made the tribute in Juba when USAID announced 17 million US Dollars funding for IDPs’ emergency education in South Sudan.
