Torit Mayor in a cholera taskforce meeting on Friday, vowed to close roadside food selling to prevent people from getting the disease.
Stephen Osfaldo Loboli criticized selling of vegetables and food in dirty places along roads, saying poor hygiene puts lives of people in danger of cholera infection, Emmanuel Radio reported.
The Mayor encouraged team work in preventing cholera from reaching Eastern Equatoria.
He called for the need to enforce general cleaning to improve hygiene and checking of food selling in Torit town.
World Health Organization or WHO Focal person in Torit Deborah Bettels said three laboratory tested cases of cholera were confirmed in Juba.
She said six deaths due to cholera occurred in health centres with seven others in the community.
Dr Bettels added that most of the cholera cases occurred among people between 15 and 34 years and common among males.
The Focal person cited person to person transmission as the main reason for persistence of the disease in Juba due to consumption of untreated Nile water.
Over 500 cholera cases were recorded since the Health Ministry officially declared an outbreak in Juba on May 15.
