International Organisation for Migration, IOM registered 28,968 Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs in Juba UN House and Juba Na Bari.
In a statement, IOM’s Displacement Tracking and Monitoring unit in one week registered 3,587 households representing 14,448 individuals in UN House and 4,314 households representing 14,520 individuals in Juba Na Bari.
IOM human mobility tracking expert Vlatko Avramovski said the new technology and methodology aims to provide more accurate demographic data for use by emergency service providers to plan efficient interventions.
The expert revealed that the registration gathered baseline information on the displaced population including demographic statistics, household size and tracking data linked to IDPs intentions regarding future movement.
The statement added that the records would serve aid agencies to identify vulnerable groups during the distribution of food, shelter and non-food relief items.
Majority of IDPs in Juba are from Nuer community compared to smaller numbers of foreign nationals who are mainly migrant workers and undocumented refugees from neighbouring countries in the region.
The statement indicated a total of 87 thousand IDPs seeking protection in eight UN bases across South Sudan.
