Medicines Sans Frontiers or MSF teams constructed 50-bed cholera treatment centres in Gudele, one of the most affected areas with the epidemic disease.

In a statement issued on Friday the organisation said the centres would soon be fully operational with the capacity to expand to 100 beds.

MSF Head of Mission in South Sudan Brian P. Moller revealed that their priority is to ensure a quick and efficient response to contain the outbreak as much as possible through treating patients and prevention of the disease.

He added that the mission was preparing a contingency plan in Melut IDPs camp in case of any outbreak.

Cholera is an acute intestinal infection caused by bacteria, found in poor sanitations, causing diarrhoea and vomiting leading to severe dehydration and death.

Its treatment involves replacing the lost water and electrolytes including potassium and sodium by rehydrating the patient with oral rehydration solution.
