Yei Deputy Mayor on Wednesday criticized some communities still sticking to traditional ways of treating measles by smearing ashes or mud on the patient’s body.
Silvano Ali told a campaigning rally against measles and polio that there is need for modern treatment and that more public awareness should be created that the traditional does no longer work effectively, Easter Radio reported.
He said without non governmental organizations the government would deliver insignificant services to the demanding population.
A Social Worker Michael Lugala said 83 percent of children in South Sudan were affected by measles in 2013 within 22 out breaks.
He said the county would reduce the rate by five percent per a million.
Mr Lugala added that infant mortality rate would be reduced by 95 percent in 2015.
The social worker made the statement during the launch of polio, measles and vitamin A campaign on Wednesday in Yei River County.
