The Catholic Church worldwide is celebrating Ash Wednesday tomorrow to begin the period of Lent.
Juba Catholic Archdiocese Acting Secretary General Samuel Abe told Bakhita Radio that Ash Wednesday is celebrated by faithful receiving ashes to purify their souls.
He said the day signifies the suffering of a sinner who seeks to express his or her guilt before the Lord for internal conversion.
Fr Abe announced that the Archdiocese will celebrate Ash Wednesday in the morning and evening in all parishes.
The Acting Secretary General described this Lent as very unique because it coincided the visit of Cardinal Tukson Peter Kwadwo from Vatican to the Archdiocese of Juba.
He added that the event also coincided with the death of Monsignor Anania Lodu Bepo on Monday.
Fr Abe said Lent period requires the faithful to go deep into their hearts and confess their sins.
He called upon the faithful in the Archdiocese to turn up for the occasion and pray for peace in the country.
Archbishop Paolino Lokudu Loro will preside over the Ash Wednesday celebration at St Theresa’s Cathedral Kator.
