A joint Central Equatoria State and County Screening Committee discovered 81 ghost medical workers in Kajo-Keji Civil Hospital and County Health Department.

County Press Secretary Amule Charles told CRN in a telephone interview that Committee Chairperson Alex Duku confirmed recovering 33 thousand South Sudanese Pounds lost every month for non-existing workers.

The official added that the ghost workers deserted the job for further studies or greener pastures without official release.

Mr Charles said Commissioner Henry Kala Sabuni planned to continue screening organized forces, teachers and general workforce in the county headquarters.

He added that the committee chairperson Duku called on other counties to screen their workforce.

The Press Secretary admitted that the uncovering of ghost workers by hospital and health department administrators was corruption.

He added that the silence and failure to report loss of public resources to county authorities was a revelation of corruption in the units.

The official said conditions in Kajo-Keji Hospital continue to worsen due to limited medical personnel and lack of national and state governments’ supplies.

Mr Amule lamented that it was regrettable to see patients dying every day without any care.

He added that patients buy drugs from commercial clinics for treatment in hospital.
