The government is expecting to host over 600 ‘real investors’ in the upcoming South Sudan Investment Conference scheduled for December 4 and 5 in Juba under the theme ‘Investment for Economic Diversification and Prosperity.’

The event is organized in partnership with the World Bank Group, USAID, UKAID, Denmark and the Netherlands, Bakhita Radio reported.

Finance and economic development minister Aggrey Tisa Sabuni told the press in Juba that the new investors will inject fresh money in the economy of the country through the banking system rather using black market.

He said the visiting investors will have time to interact with government officials to enable them decide what business they wanted to conduct in South Sudan.

Minister Tisa said the country had enough hard currency to enable businessmen transact and import goods for four months, including new investors.

He added that his ministry and the Central Bank Governor were working out modalities to reduce the flow of hard currency into the black market.

The minister made clear that transactions in hard currency needed to be done through the banking system and be properly recorded for the benefit of tax officials.

Minister Tisa said the upcoming conference aimed to showcase business and investment opportunities in South Sudan for crafting a clear roadmap for the country’s diversification programme.

He added that resource persons and panellists will critically examine the government reform programme, assess the attractiveness of South Sudan as the newest investment location, shed light on the realities of operating a business in the country and identify emerging investment opportunities.
